- System must be installed by an accredited installer. System size must be 100kW or less. Installation must comply with Australian standards. Property must be residential or small business.
Expires: 30/06/2025
NSW Empowering Homes Solar Battery Loan

Available Rebates & Incentives
Take advantage of these government programs to reduce the cost of your solar installation.
Federal Solar & Battery Rebate (SRES)
- Solar Panels (PV): The rebate value dropped on Jan 1, 2026. For a standard 6.6kW system, the upfront discount is now approximately $1,560 – $1,800 (depending on your “Zone” in Australia).
- New “Cheaper Home Batteries” Program: This is the biggest change. Right now, you can get roughly $300 – $335 per kWh of usable battery capacity.
- Example: A 13.5kWh battery currently receives about $4,300 off the upfront cost.
- ⚠️ The “May 1st Cliff”: On May 1, 2026, the battery rebate will be reduced again. Crucially, “tapering” will begin, meaning systems larger than 14kWh will receive significantly less funding per kWh.
NSW "Empowering Homes" Replacement
- Updated Program: NSW Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS).
- The Incentive: Instead of a loan, homeowners get an upfront “VPP Incentive” for connecting their battery to a Virtual Power Plant.
- Value: Between $400 and $1,500 depending on the battery size.
- Stacking: This can be combined with the Federal battery rebate, potentially saving a NSW household over $5,000 in total on a new battery.
Victorian Solar Homes Program
- Interest-Free Loan: An optional $1,400 loan (repayable over 4 years) is still available to match the rebate.
- Updated Eligibility: * Combined household income must be under $210,000.
Property value must be under $3 million. - You must not have received a Solar Victoria rebate in the last 10 years.
